GEORGE: What’s up? Its El isn’t it?

ETHAN: Yeah, how’d you know?

GEORGE: Just a feeling mate. Come on, what’s happened?

ETHAN: El’s just been really weird since the results earlier. She keeps saying she wants to go to uni with me, but she’s had her heart set on Edinburg for years, and to be honest I think there’s something else too.

GEORGE: Maybe you should listen to her?

ETHAN: But I know that she wants to go to Edinburgh, I don’t want her to throw her life away just for me.

GEORGE: Well just have a chat with her and see what happens yeah?

FADE OUT

SCENE 6

EL IS ABOUT TO TELL ETHAN THAT SHE IS PREGNANT, CELL PHONE RINGING AT THE BEGINNING, AND HANG UP AT THE END, TELEVISION PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND

EL: Ethan, there’s something I’ve got to tell you… I’m pregnant

ETHAN: What the fuck? How did this happen?

EL: I don’t know babe I’m so confused

ETHAN: Look it’s okay, we’ll work through it – we’ll look into maybe getting rid of it?

EL: What? Why? I couldn’t do that! It’s a baby! How could you say something like that, I couldn’t do that!

ETHAN: I don’t want you throwing your life away just for me! You’ve got a life plan and this just doesn’t fit into it.

EL: What do you mean throw my life away!

ETHAN: You’ve had your life set on Edinburgh for as long as I’ve known you. I don’t want to be the reason for holding you back, I don’t think having a baby is for the best.

El: But I love you, and you love me. We could do it together.

ETHAN: I do love you but I just want you to really think about what you truly want before making a final decision.

EL: Ok can we not argue anymore. I’ll think about it. Lets just enjoy the rest of the night yeah?

ETHAN: Ok.

FADE OUT

SCENE 7

BEN AND ETHAN ARE APPROACHING A BAR TALKING ABOUT ELISA’S PREGNANCY. SOUND EFFECTS: PEOPLE TALKING, CUPS BANGING AND STEADY BAR-LIKE MUSIC JUST IN THE BACKGROUND. DOORS OPEN TO PUB AND FOOTSTEPS. STALL SCRAPING

BEN: (OFF) Two beers please mate.

ETHAN: You alright then mate? Haven’t seen you in a while.

BEN: I’m fine thanks, but more to the point how’re you holding up after El’s news?

ETHAN: *SIGH* Well, I’m just sort of taking it in my stride, there’s not much I can do about it now is there? I’m just feeling a lot for El at the moment, she not only has to decide what uni to go to, but now she’s got these baby worries, it couldn’t have come at a worse time if I’m honest. I don’t even know how it happened in the first place, its not like we weren’t careful.

GLASS SMASHES IN THE BACKGROUND

BEN: Well these things just happen don’t they mate, I mean look at Phil, it happened to him too. You just have to ask yourself do you really wanna be a dad right now, just before you go off to uni. I mean you and El might not even be in a decent distance to each other if she decides to go to Edinburgh will you? Maybe it would be a better idea to just nip it in the bud.

ETHAN: Ben, its not something you can just throw away mate, it’ll stay with you forever. I just don’t know anything at the moment, El’s not really opening up to me, which is understandable but still, I miss her. At the end of the day, whatever El decides, she has to know that I’ll always be there for her and if she decides she wants to keep the baby, well then we’ll deal with it.

BEN: Well at least you’re supporting her, that’s good enough. You just have to support her along the way I guess. I just can’t believe there’s a possibility that you’re gonna be a dad, its crazy.

ETHAN: Yeah I know, I don’t know how her parents will react either, let alone mine. I love El so much I just don’t want this to ruin us. I still want her to go to her dream uni, she deserves it. (PAUSE) I better go mate, got a lot of stuff to do and things to think about. Thanks for the chat, really needed it.

BEN: No probs buddy, let me know how it all turns out yeah? It’ll all turn out for the best I’m sure.

ETHAN: Yeah you’re not the only one there. Cya in a bit mate.

STOOL SCRAPES ON THE FLOOR, MUSIC FADES OUT TO SILENCE
